경주에서 나의 세 번째 베이스캠프는 경주 북군동

보문관광단지 초입 동네로 길 건너에 유명 관광지인 동궁원이 있다.
북군동은 순두부 맛집 골목으로 꽤 유명하다.
‘맷돌순두부’가 순두부 식당들의 대장이라고 볼 수 있는데,
그 위쪽으로 찬찬히 걸어 올라오면 한옥 골목을 만난다.
한옥들 중 하나가 나의 직장, 한옥 숙소다.

내가 이토록 근사한 동네를 또 찾을 수 있을까?
매일의 산책 길에서 드는 생각이다.
화창한 날은 그야말로 눈이 부시게, 비 오는 날은 차분하고 고즈넉하게.
여느 도시와 여느 시골과 걷는 맛, 보는 맛이 색다른 공간.
경주의 자연과 층층이 쌓여진 한옥과 관광지 특유의 매력이 합쳐진 결과다.

많은 사람들이 시간을 내고 돈을 들여 찾아오는 이곳에서
나는 매일 먹고 자고 산다.

My third base camp in Gyeongju is Bukgun-dong

a neighborhood at the entrance of the Bomun Tourist Complex,
just across the street from the popular attraction Donggungwon.

Bukgun-dong is well-known for its alley of soft tofu stew restaurants.
Among them, Mattdol Sundubu is considered the leader of the pack.
If you walk slowly up the hill from there, you’ll come across a lane lined with traditional Hanok houses.
One of those Hanoks is my workplace — a guesthouse.

Will I ever find another neighborhood as wonderful as this?
That’s what I think about every time I take my daily walk.
On sunny days, the scenery is dazzling.
When it rains, the mood turns calm and quietly beautiful.
It’s a space where the pleasure of walking and the joy of seeing feel different
from any city or countryside I’ve known.
The beauty of Gyeongju’s nature, the layers of Hanok roofs,
and the charm unique to a tourist town all come together here.

In this place where many people spend their time and money to visit,
I eat, sleep, and live every day.
